National Anthems

Just starting to watch the NBA All Star game (don't tell me the score!).

For the Canadian national anthem, Jann Arden (great singer from Calgary), dressed in a simple leather jacket and jeans, did a sweet "traditional" version.

For the American Anthem? Destiny's Child dressed to the nines in gowns, jewelry and bling.

Now, I have no idea what song they sang. I assume it was supposed to be the Star Spangled Banner but, the way they sang it? Not even close....

Why do singers feel the need to do that to the US anthem? It's a fine song the way it's written. What's with the idea of "I have to put my personal stamp on it." NO YOU DON'T! IT'S THE FREAKING NATIONAL ANTHEM, NOT YOUR PERSONAL THEME SONG!

Wow, there buddy. cool your damn horses. Yes, they did the Star Spangled Banner. They sang in harmony. Do you know what harmony is?
Obviosly not.
It wouldn't sound nearly as good if they ALL sang the melody. Do you know what melody is?
Obviously not.
Do you know how much harder and challenging it is to sing harmony and blend your voice with the singer beside you singing in your ear the melody?(michelle sang the melody)
Obviously not.
I do because i'm a singer. It's not as easy as you would think.
I'm watching you.
DON'T U EVER SAY NOTHING ABOUT DC AGAIN.

LOL I didn't say a thing about their harmonies just their histrionics.

"It's not as easy as you would think."

I didn't say that it wasn't easy. Maybe you should go back and reread what I said.

LMAO You're kidding, right? DC are 3 very pretty, barely talented screamers.

There...let see how that goes over. :)

"Harder" doesn't equate to "better". It takes a really good artist (music or otherwise) to cut through the crap and give a truly elegant and simple solution.

Yeah, of course you can get together a bunch of people and sing a 12 part harmony- and yeah, it's going to be difficult to get it right- But that doesn't mean it's going to sound great.

There is one way, and one way only to sing the National Anthem of The United States. And a difficult Harmony AIN'T IT!!!!

And if you put enough effort to flame someone at least be bold enough to put your friggen name to your comment. It is bad enough that you ardently disagree, but to do it "Anonymously" is a cop-out. Stand up for your belief, but don't do it "Anonymously".

Ok you sing, but do others want to here you sing is the question. The way she sings her own music is fine for her and her fans, but when you take the pride of this nation, it would be better to do it reverently.
